Ayurvedic combination of 3 fruits

Triphala is an ancestral Ayurvedic recipe composed of equal parts of the fruits of the Amalaki , Bibhitaki and Haritaki plants. The composition corresponds to the tripartite approach which runs through all Vedic teaching. The name Triphala can be translated as the notion of triple fruit.

Triphala is one of the most famous plant combinations in South-East Asia, it was already used 3500 years ago and is still of central importance in Ayurveda today. According to Ayurvedic philosophy, Triphala must balance the pitta fire energy and the Kapha earth energy.

Amalaki – amla berry (Indian gooseberry)

Amalaki, native to the tropics, is one of the richest fruits in vitamin C available. 100 g of fresh amla berries provide around 600 to 900 mg of vitamin C. It also has a considerable content of amino acids, minerals, fatty acids and natural plant substances like quercetin. In Southeast Asia, the berries are used as an ingredient in various vegetable dishes or are preserved in sweet or sour preserves.

It is one of the rare plants in existence to present five of the six Ayurvedic flavors: bitter, sour, spicy, sweet, pungent.

Haritaki - Myrobalan from Chebuli

Haritaki has been used for millennia in natural sciences around the world. It is notably among the most important plants in traditional Chinese herbalism and Ayurvedic teaching.

In Indian naturopathy, heritaki is defined as warming and also has all the Ayurvedic flavors except salty: bitter, harsh, sour, spicy, sweet.

Tannins and flavonoids, gallic acid and ellagic acid are valuable components of Chebuli myrobalan.

Bibhitaki - Belgian Myrobalan (green myrobalan)

The bibhitaki fruit is part, along with haritaki and amalaki, of Triphala, a very popular and effective mixture of plants. It is traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Tibetan health philosophy, both internally and externally. Its power is defined as warming and its taste as harsh or astringent.

Bibhitaki fruits are rich in secondary plant substances and contain notable amounts of tannins, polyphenols, gallic acid and ellagic acid.
