Amalaki – amla berry (Indian gooseberry)

Amalaki, native to the tropics, is one of the richest fruits in vitamin C available. 100 g of fresh amla berries provide around 600 to 900 mg of vitamin C. It also has a considerable content of amino acids, minerals, fatty acids and natural plant substances like quercetin. In Southeast Asia, the berries are used as an ingredient in various vegetable dishes or are preserved in sweet or sour preserves.

It is one of the rare plants in existence to present five of the six Ayurvedic flavors: bitter, sour, spicy, sweet, pungent.
